Inspired Italian community digs deep to raise over $12,400

Wednesday 27 August, 2008

Nearly 400 Italian residents of the City of Wyndham showed their community spirit at a fundraising event for The Cancer Council Victoria that raised over $12,400 for the fight against cancer.

Held in July, the ‘Wyndham Cancer Community Gala' was a fantastic evening of dinner, dancing and fundraising for the Cancer Council, which included a six-course meal, a great floorshow and musical performances by local artists.

Inspired by a family member's cancer diagnosis, event organiser Nella Todaro said the gala was a huge success and she was amazed by the support she received.

"After months of work, it was great to see everyone come together as one. Not only was it a fun event for friends and family in the community, but it also raised much-needed funds for an important cause," Mrs Todaro said.

The Cancer Council's Community Fundraising Manager, Irene Manitta, said community groups that hold special events such as the ‘Wyndham Cancer Community Gala' are an important part of the Cancer Council's fundraising efforts.

"We rely on special efforts arranged by groups such as Mrs Todaro's, to raise funds to support our lifesaving cancer research and our education programs which help people to reduce their cancer risk. We also rely on funds to run our information and support service for people affected by cancer," Ms Manitta said.

"We are continually inspired by the dedication and passion of our supporters, and our work simply would not be possible without their ongoing commitment. A big thank you to Mrs Todaro and all those that contributed," Ms Manitta said.
