Greek community gives $16,000 for cancer

A Greek community group has raised $16,000 to help the fight against cancer. The Panarcadian Association of Melbourne was inspired to raise the money because several members had recently faced cancer.

"We decided to donate the money raised from our annual Mothers Day dinner to The Cancer Council Victoria because so many of our members are affected by cancer," club President Jim Alexopulos said.

The group held a Mothers Day dinner to raise money for the Cancer Council, which included raffles and an auction. "We wanted to support our members affected by cancer, and raising money for the Cancer Council was the best way to show it," said Mr Alexopulos.

The Cancer Council would also like to acknowledge the generous donation of $10,000 by member Andreas Andianopoulos, who donated the money in memory of his late wife who battled lung cancer last year.

Community Relations and Fundraising Director Deb Stringer said all donations are vital for the Cancer Council.

"We rely on donations to fund lifesaving cancer research, world-class cancer education programs, and vital support services for people in times of great need," Ms Stringer said.
