Cancer Council's Frankston Volunteer Group Celebrates 25 Years

Thursday 19 April, 2007

The Cancer Council Victoria's Frankston Volunteer Group is celebrating this month, having reached its 25th Anniversary.

One of the oldest Volunteer Groups in Victoria, the Frankston Volunteer Group has made a terrific contribution to the fight against cancer, raising vital funds to support the Cancer Council's lifesaving cancer research, internationally recognised education programs, and support services that are vital to people facing cancer. In 2006 alone, the group raised more than $10,000 for the cancer fight.

The Volunteer Group has also played an important role in raising awareness in the Frankston area of cancer issues that directly affect local residents and Cancer Council activities in which locals can participate.

"We are extremely grateful for the support of the Frankston Volunteer Group," The Cancer Council's Marnie Moon said. "The Cancer Council is a volunteer-based charity, so groups like the Frankston Volunteer Group play a vital role in helping people affected by cancer, both in their local community and across Victoria."

"The fantastic efforts of our volunteers in Frankston through their ongoing support of our major fundraising activities such as Daffodil Day and Australia's Biggest Morning Tea are highly valued," Ms Moon said.

The Frankston Volunteer Group has received long-term support from many local residents. Two members of the group, David McDougal and Tom Maughan, have been with the Frankston Volunteer Group since it formed in 1982.

"I would like to thank all of the volunteers who have contributed to the group in the past 25 years for their wonderful service to the Cancer Council," Ms Moon said.

The Frankston Volunteer Group has many projects underway and always welcomes the support of new volunteers. To find out more about joining the Frankston Volunteer Group, please call 1300 65 65 85, or visit the volunteers section of our website.
