The Victorian Family Cancer Register will cease to operate after 30 June, 2016.
This Register is an opt-in database of families who have a higher risk of developing cancer than the average population due to an inherited gene fault or family history of cancer. The Register is managed by Cancer Council Victoria and funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Following a review, the DHHS identified a duplication of services offered by the Victorian Family Cancer Register and by the family cancer centres and has made a decision to close the Register. After 30 June, 2016 registrants will not be contacted and appointment screening reminders and newsletters will no longer be provided.
Cancer Council is committed to ensuring families on the Victorian Family Cancer Register continue to receive appropriate medical information and care. The news of the closure was communicated to all registrants encouraging them to contact their referring family cancer centre or medical practitioner to discuss any concerns and for ongoing surveillance advice. An information sheet providing more about the closure and contact details for the Victorian family cancer centres is available for download.
If you have any questions regarding the closure call 9514 6237, Cancer Council 13 11 20 or email VFCR@cancervic.org.au.
