This is a mixed-method study that involves:
- patterns of care audit of around 700 patients;
- qualitative interviews with AYAs; and
- a quantitative survey to assess experiences of care among 300 patients in three Australian states.
The patterns of care audit will obtain population-based data on treatment for cancers that are common among adolescents and young adults (AYAs). The qualitative studies will involve interviews with AYAs several years post diagnosis regarding their treatment experiences and the impact of cancer. This information will be used to develop a quantitative survey examining experiences of care.
The quantitative study will assess experiences of medical care, anxiety, depression, quality of life and unmet supportive care needs over a 12-month period.
