An ounce of prevention now online

We all know we should eat less eat, exercise more and give up bad habits like drinking too much, but did you know that by making these lifestyle changes you can also cut your risk of cancer? In fact, more than a third of all cancers can be prevented by:

  1. Quitting or avoiding smoking
  2. Limiting alcohol
  3. Being SunSmart
  4. Eating a healthy diet
  5. Being physically active
  6. Getting screened
  7. Maintaining a healthy weight.

A new website launched by the Cancer Prevention Centre aims to get the Victorian public to adopt these seven magnificent habits that can not only drastically reduce your chance of developing cancer but also decrease your risk of other major chronic illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.

The Cut Your Cancer Risk website is not only a hub of prevention information, it also contains a lifestyle quiz to help you understand where your risk lies and provides tips and challenges to motivate you to make small but significant changes to your life.

We all know the feeling of reading an article in the newspaper or watching a report on TV about a new link found between cancer and various household products. To help you navigate through this maze of information, the website also has a blog function that aims to go behind the headlines and discuss topical issues in cancer prevention.
