What is Gift in Lieu?

Gift in Lieu is a donation to The Cancer Council Victoria in lieu of gifts for a celebration. It is an alternative to material gifts and is a perfect way to mark a special occasion or to brighten someone's day, whether it is for a birthday, wedding, anniversary or a simple thank you. 

A Gift in Lieu will help us continue our fight against cancer.

How does Gift in Lieu work?

You can elect to donate in lieu of giving gifts or you can asks friends and family to donate in lieu of giving gifts to you.  When a Gift in Lieu donation is made, a gift card with the donor’s name and message is sent to the person celebrating their special occasion. The donated amount is not included on the card.  

For your celebration…

Gift in Lieu is a unique way for you to celebrate life and love. You can participate in two ways:

  • Ask your guests to make a donation to the Cancer Council in lieu of gifts to you. Once you register, you will receive Gift in Lieu envelopes to include with your invitations.
  • Donate to the Cancer Council in lieu of gifts or bonbonniere to your friends and family.  Contact us to register your donation, and create your own gift card and message to notify family and friends of your donation on their behalf!

Donations of $2 and more are tax deductible.

  • Call 1300 65 65 85 (9am – 5pm Monday to Friday)

You can make your donation in lieu online.

 

  • Call the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 20 and talk to a trained professional
  • Relay for life - The Cancer Council's team fundraising event

    • A hugely popular relay-style event that raises money for cancer research.
