BreastHealth training program

This 1-day program is for health and community workers new to the area of breast health and breast cancer, or those who want to update their skills and knowledge.

Our aim is to provide participants with the ability to present breast health education to individuals and groups. Topics include:

  • breast anatomy
  • breast changes through the lifecycle
  • common breast changes and problems
  • breast cancer and risk: the role of genetics
  • detecting breast cancer early: screening mammography and breast awareness
  • working with women: tailoring breast education to suit the audience.

The registration fee of $150 (GST not applicable) covers lunch and refreshments, a certificate of attendance, the BreastHealth training manual, a pack of breast health resources, and access to our community education PowerPoint presentation.

The program is held at our Carlton office but can also be run at other venues, including rural Victoria. If you have a venue and a minimum of 10 participants interested, please contact us.

BreastHealth training manual

The manual contains:

  • facts and figures on breast health and breast cancer
  • summaries of information delivered during the training program
  • sample session plans
  • activities
  • resources including booklets and brochures
  • tips on working with women
  • tips on media promotion.

The manual is included in the cost of the BreastHealth training program. For more details call (03) 9635 5363 or email BreastHealth@cancervic.org.au.

For those who have completed BreastHealth training, the manual and community education presentation can be downloaded from the restricted BreastHealth area. The manual was updated in January 2009. The community education presentation was updated in October 2009. Note: The password has recently changed. If you have difficulty logging in, call (03) 9635 5363.

There are a number of resources and websites available to support workers conducting breast health sessions in the community.

Developed in consultation with women aged 20 to 40, this resource provides clear information in a fresh format to help young women become breast aware and reduce their risk of breast cancer.

Take the lead brochure coverTake the lead - be breast aware: a guide for Aboriginal women

Local Indigenous artwork was used to develop this culturally appropriate breast health resource. Developed in consultation with the community in Victoria, it's a call to action for Indigenous women to be strong in their communities by being breast aware.

BreastHealth kit

Designed to complement BreastHealth education sessions, the kit contains the BreastHealth video, the BreastScreen video – For Me and My Family, and breast models. They are kept in community centres and are available for loan.
