Oestrogen
A hormone responsible for female characteristics and with a role in female reproduction, mainly produced by the ovaries.
Oestrogen Receptor
A protein on the surface of a cancer cell that suggests oestrogen helps the cancer grow. This means the cancer is more likely to respond to hormone therapy.
Oestrogen Receptor Test
A test to see if a cancer relies on the hormone oestrogen to grow. If so, may respond to hormone therapy: see hormone receptors. Also called oestrogen receptor assay.
