Optimal Care Pathways

Formerly known as Patient Management Frameworks

GPs are an important part of the cancer journey for a patient and their family. Optimal Care Pathways are guides for health professionals in this care pathway to ensure patients and families are supported. The Victorian Government encouraged their development in collaboration with practitioners, consumers and carers. They're based on current best practice and are a statement of consensus as to currently accepted treatments. A full list of Optimal Care Pathways is available on the Victorian Government website.

Clinical guidelines

Clinical practice guidelines are ‘systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific circumstances' (Filed and Lohr, 1992). With the National Health and Medical Research Council, Cancer Council Australia's Clinical Guidelines Network has developed clinical guidelines for managing cancer treatment. To download or order these guidelines for your practice visit Cancer Council Australia's website. A full list of clinical guidelines is available on the National Health and Medical Research Council website.

Position statements

Cancer Council Australia has developed a range of evidence-based position statements to communicate our position on key cancer issues. Position statements are written by Cancer Council Australia's expert committees and based on the evidence available. For a full list of position statements visit Cancer Council Australia's website.
