The Emergence of a Butterfly
(Chalk, Oil, Pastel & Paint Wash on Paper)
Teacher: Jo Zammit & Julie McLeod
Students age: 5-6 years
Sarah's cancer diagnosis has inspired her class to depict how happy she now feels that her tumour is shrinking, using the bright colours of chalk and crayon to emphasis her heartfelt thanks for support from all. Beautiful butterflies represent the emergence of a now glowing Sarah as her treatment is progressing.
This is a lovely artwork, and I think it embodies exactly what the Group Art category is all about. You can see clearly each child's imprint on the work and that they have all contributed equally in the creation of this picture. The butterflies are so joyous and colourful, and there is such a unified contagious positive energy that emanates from this picture.
