Many of you will know that when one person is diagnosed with cancer, it can have ripple affects throughout the whole community. Patients, family and friends are welcome to access reliable support through our 13 11 20 telephone service. It is free, confidential, available across Victoria and an opportunity to speak with one of our experienced and understanding cancer nurses for information you can trust.
Evie Nicolaou first came into contact with Cancer Council Victoria when she called 13 11 20 after completing her treatment for bowel cancer. One of our experienced nurses listened to her fears, gave practical advice and linked Evie into support programs including Holiday Break and Healthy Living after Cancer program. Evie now volunteers with us, and with a background as an experienced hairdresser, is a wonderful addition to our Wig Service. This program offers people undergoing cancer treatment who cannot afford a wig the chance to be fitted with a free synthetic wig by one of our 13 11 20 nurses.
Evie has been extremely gracious in allowing Cancer Council Victoria to use the power of her own personal story to raise awareness of the support available through our services. Evie's passion and dedication as a volunteer was recognised recently when presented the CEO Award by Todd Harper. Congratulations Evie and thank you.
