Statement on Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017 from Cancer Council Victoria CEO Todd Harper

Monday 25 September, 2017

Cancer Council Victoria recognises there are differing personal and professional views on voluntary assisted dying and we respect the right of people and organisations to hold such views.

The Cancer Council is not taking a position on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017. We welcome the consultation process as an opportunity for organisations and individuals to express their views on the proposals.  This process and discussion has enabled our political leaders to appropriately weigh the issues as they debate the bill.

Regardless of the outcome of the debate on the bill, it is essential that every effort is made to provide care and support for all people at end of life, and for their families and carers, to enable them to experience deaths that are as dignified and free from pain and suffering as possible.
