Cancer Council Victoria has converted from a not-for-profit organisation created under the Cancer Act 1958 to a new governance structure, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. This change is a result of the passing of the Improving Cancer Outcomes Act 2014 in the Victorian Parliament in October last year.
This change is supported by our Board and brings us into line with other Cancer Councils in Australia. While it will not change our day to day work in cancer research, prevention and support, we will now have control over appointments to our Board and Council.
The Act also creates a more modern framework to support efforts to reduce cancer incidence and death, and to enhance the wellbeing of those affected by the disease. We look forward to working with the Victorian Government on the development of four-year cancer plans.
Together with the public’s support, we can continue to improve cancer outcomes for all Victorians.
