We love Winter at SunSmart and Hotham, so this year we're celebrating the start of the snow season by giving one lucky winner ‘A Winter to Remember'!
Victorians are invited to check out the competition page of the SunSmart website and guess the identity of our mystery Winter athlete over the month of June, with a new clue revealing a little more about our secret snowsports star each week.
The first entrant (aged over 18 years) to guess correctly wins a private snowsports lesson with our world ranked mystery athlete at Hotham Alpine Resort in Victoria for two PLUS weekend accommodation (2 nights), equipment hire, lift pass and return transport from Melbourne! For those aged under 18 years, we have a pair of Oakley sunglasses up for grabs.
Jen Makin, SunSmart Manager, said: "It's important to realise that you can burn just as easily on the ski slopes as on the beach, so make sure to pack sun protection gear for the snow this season."
"The ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is more intense at higher altitudes because there's less atmosphere to filter the UV rays. Added to this, snow can reflect as much as 90% of the sun's harmful UV rays, exposing skiers and snowboarders to a double dose of UV – directly from the sun and indirectly from the reflection off the snow."
"Away from higher altitudes, UV levels are generally below three in Victoria from May to August making it a great time to get outside without sun protection to get some sun for vitamin D," said Ms Makin.
Recognising the importance of skin cancer prevention, a host of brands are joining the fight against skin cancer by generously donating prizes to ‘A Winter To Remember' competition. Supporters include Hotham Alpine Resort, Snowball Express, the Snowbird Inn and Oakley.
Hotham Spokesperson, Gina Woodward, says "We look forward to hosting the prize-winner for their weekend at Hotham with a world class athlete. This is a once in a lifetime prize!"
Sun protection is strongly supported at Hotham throughout the resort with sunscreen available for guests at the Guest Services, Tickets and Snowsports School offices.
The competition is open to Victorian residents only and ends on Friday 29 June 2012.
