Last chance to share your experience creatively with Cancer Council

Wednesday 17 March, 2010

Entries for Cancer Council Victoria Arts Awards 2010 will close on Wednesday 7 April and artists are being encouraged to start their creations before it’s too late.

The internationally recognised Arts Awards is open to artists of all abilities and provides people with the opportunity to share their cancer experiences through creative expression. This year’s theme is ‘Lost and Found’ and categories include Visual Art, Short Story, Film, Poetry, Indigenous Art, and Youth and Children’s Writing and Art.

Outstanding entries are selected by a panel of high profile experts including Tony Wilson, Elena Taylor and Arnold Zable, and cash prizes will be awarded to the outstanding entry in each category.

With the closing date fast approaching, Cancer Council spokesperson, Irene Manitta, is encouraging Victorians to submit their creations so they don’t miss out.

“We’re hoping all local residents who have been touched by cancer, either directly or indirectly, consider entering. There is still time if artists begin their pieces now,” Ms Manitta said.

“We know that artistic and literary expression can help many deal with the pain and trauma of cancer and can also assist people through their cancer journey.”

Arts Awards was recently selected as the winner of the Visual Arts and Exhibitions Award category of The Ability Media International Awards for its creative excellence and social relevance.

In addition to cash prizes for Outstanding Entries, a diverse range of works will be displayed in a Melbourne exhibition in July and tours regional Victoria.

Entries close on Wednesday 7 April 2010. For more information, visit http://www.artsawards.com.au/ or call 1300 65 65 85.
