Cancer Council Victoria would like to congratulate Avis Macphee AM, who was recognised in the Queen's Birthday 2010 Honour List.
A Cancer Council Victoria Executive Committee Member since 2006, Mrs Macphee was made a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her service to community health, particularly as a supporter of research into the treatment and management of breast cancer.
Mrs Macphee also knows first-hand the impact cancer can have - she is a breast cancer survivor herself. A retired medical scientist, she is also the founder and coordinator of the Breast Cancer Support Group of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute Ltd.
"Mrs Macphee is a tireless advocate for people affected by cancer," said Professor David Hill, Director, Cancer Council Victoria. "She is most deserving of the honour and I congratulate her on her achievements."
Her current appointments include membership of the Board of Management and Scientific Committee of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium and membership of the Victorian Cancer Biobank Committee. She also represents the Breast Cancer Network Australia and the Breast Cancer Action Group on several committees.
Cancer Council Victoria would also like to congratulate Peter Fuhrmann PSM and Barbara Thomas OAM.
A member of the Cancer Council Victoria Finance Committee, Mr Fuhrmann was awarded the Public Service Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to public sector financial management reform in Victoria.
Ms Thomas was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of her fantastic service to community through volunteer roles within Cancer Council Victoria.
