Ararat and Horsham to benefit from free cancer support forums

Wednesday 28 July, 2010

Two special Cancer Council Victoria forums will be held in Ararat on Monday 16 August, and again in Horsham on Tuesday 17 August.

Thanks to a generous contribution from RACV, and local support from Grampians Integrated Cancer Service, these forums will be offered at no cost to the community.

Every year, more than 1000 residents in the Grampians region hear the devastating news "you have cancer".

People whose cancer has advanced, and their family and friends, are invited to the When Cancer Won't Go Away forum to find out more about financial and legal issues relevant to long-term illness as well as treatment and support services.

People who have experienced cancer and their family and friends are invited to the Life After Cancer workshop to discuss the impact of cancer on their life and returning to a new 'normal'.

Cancer Services Coordinator, Ms Amanda Spillare, said Cancer Council Victoria was committed to extending its reach to regional Victorians affected by cancer.

"People often feel a great deal of anxiety and distress when facing the challenges of cancer," Ms Spillare said.

"These forums will provide Horsham residents with specialised information and support, as well as an opportunity to share their stories with others who can relate to the cancer experience.
