Budding artists and professional creatives alike will unleash their talents over the coming months, following the launch today of The Cancer Council Victoria Arts Awards 2008 Call For Entries.
With entries closing on Friday 4 April, the Arts Awards gives all Victorians touched by cancer an opportunity to share their experiences creatively through art, writing and film.
"While the Arts Awards is an uplifting event, it also plays an important role in supporting all those Victorians who have faced cancer, whether through their own diagnosis or that of a loved one," The Cancer Council's Director of Community Relations and Fundraising Deb Stringer said.
"The Arts Awards are an opportunity to remember loved ones and provide hope to people currently facing cancer," Ms Stringer said. "By sharing experiences through art, we encourage understanding and healing."
The Arts Awards also offers entrants the chance to win cash prizes and to share their works with the public. Following the judging, selected works will be displayed in The Cancer Council Victoria Arts Awards Exhibition, which will begin in Melbourne and then tour regional Victoria.
"Because the Arts Awards is open to all - young and old, amateur and professional - we urge anyone with a cancer story, whether direct or indirect, to start creating," Ms Stringer said. "The 2008 Arts Awards theme is Seize the Day, so why not embrace that idea and get your entry form today?"
