Cancer Council Victoria has been leading efforts against cancer since 1936 through world leading research, prevention, support and advocacy programs. The Victorian Cancer Biobank forms part of the Strategy and Support Division, and is a network of human tissue banks working together across Victoria to provide the research community with a suite of ethically obtained biospecimens linked to extensive clinical data.

About your opportunity

We are seeking three Medical Data Assistants to join the Victorian Cancer Biobank, to be located at the Austin Health, Melbourne Health, or Monash Health Tissue Banks. Reporting to the Applications and Database Manager and the Executive Officer of the Victorian Cancer Biobank and to the onsite Tissue Bank Managers, your role is to:

  • Collect information from medical records, pathology reports and clinical databases;
  • Enter data on a daily basis from source documents/databases into the OpenSpecimenTM Biospecimen Management Database;
  • Verify, clean and update data and undertake continuous data management to improve accuracy and data quality;
  • Maintain patient confidentiality including following privacy and information handling protocols.

All about you

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Qualifications in science or other relevant field and/or demonstrated data entry experience in a laboratory/healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical, oncological and histopathological terminologies.
  • A methodical approach with a high level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • Understanding of and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow related privacy protocols.

What we can offer you

These three full-time fixed term positions to 30 June 2018 provide a salary within range $43,595 to $48,021 pa plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card. We also offer a flexible and friendly work environment, social and wellbeing activities and a location close to public transport. Training will be provided on the OpenSpecimenTM Biospecimen Management Database.
