For children

Children having chemotherapy or radiotherapy can also lose their hair. It may be just as difficult for you to face your friends at school or playing sport as it is for adults.

If you are young and very energetic, you may find a wig a bother and won't wear it anyway. If you are older, you might feel better settling back into your normal routines. Remember that your head is still growing so if you are going to need a wig for a long period, make sure that it is adjustable to grow with you.

A 'beanie' is always a popular hat among children and scarves can be tied in lots of different ways. You could even try looking at what else is in style.

Remember, other people will want to help you and may understand many of the things you are going through.

  • Talk to your parents, brothers, sisters or friends about your feelings.
  • You or your parents may want to talk to your school teachers.
  • Talk to your doctor, nurse or social worker and find out what is likely to happen to you.
