The Victorian Cooperative Oncology Group, established in 1976, consists of a statewide representative committee, an executive committee and 16 cancer-site and task-specific advisory sub-committees, involving over 450 specialist health care professionals.
It's the peak multi-specialty representative oncology forum in Victoria, and has forged key links across the health care sector and with government. VCOG initiates and contributes to cancer research and the implementation of cancer programs and services.
The VCOG committees also collaborate with our centres for behavioural and epidemiological research, patient education, information and support services.
The aim of VCOG is to advise the Cancer Council on all clinical aspects of cancer and in particular, on research, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, palliative medicine and professional education.
Its objective is to maintain a ‘parliament’ of oncologists and scientists to promote a range of cooperative measures to optimise cancer management in Victoria. To support this objective it has established 10 cancer-site sub-committees on breast, gastrointestinal, gynaecological haemato-oncology, head & neck, lung, neuro-oncology, skin, and urological cancers and 4 advisory committees on genetics, palliative medicine, clinical research and psycho-oncology.
