The 8 Cancer in General Practice modules are available to GPs and their staff free of charge and can be used for either RACGP Category 1 or Category 2 CPD options, or ACRRM Peer Review Group or CME options.
The modules incorporate the use of case studies, reflective practice activities, journal articles and evidence-based guidelines to stimulate discussion.
Module 1: What can general practice do about cancer? - Strengthening the role of general practice in cancer prevention, detection and management
Module 2: Prevention and screening - Provides an overview of the main areas where GPs can make a difference to cancer mortality
Module 3: Familial cancers and family history - Focuses on assessing familial cancer risk
Module 4: Bowel cancer - Introduces the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
Module 5: Prostate cancer - Understanding the risks and benefits of screening for prostate cancer
Module 6: Cervical cancer - Explores changes in the National guidelines
Module 7: A whole-of-practice approach to cancer care - Enables a practice to assess its systems in relation to cancer care
Module 8: Understanding and using cancer services - Learn more about your local cancer services (please note this module involves organising a meeting with staff from a local cancer service)
Each module takes about 1½ to 2 hours. We recommend groups complete Modules 1 and 2 as an introduction. All modules can also be undertaken as stand-alone education activities.
